Instructor Bios

CHERI ENGLISH, C.P.M., CSCP Cheri has over 27 years of experience in Manufacturing and Materials Management. She has a degree in Administration of Justice, earned her C.P.M. in 2004 and her CSCP certification in 2008. Her experience in Manufacturing includes Customer Service, Finance and a variety of roles in Supply Chain Management  ranging in companies from small to Global in Aerospace, Maquiladora, Semiconductor and the Biotechnical industries. She is currently the Manager of Planning Management for EMD Millipore in San Diego, CA. Cheri has been an instructor for the San Diego Chapter since 2008, teaching the Back to Basics series, Seminars and CSCP Review Courses. She has served on the APICS San Diego Chapter Board of Directors since 2002 in various roles (Publicity, Membership, Finance, Education).  She is currently serving as Executive Director of CSCP and Seminars for the current Board of Directors.
Sanford Friedman
SANFORD (SANDY) FRIEDMAN, BS, MS, MBA, CFPIM, CIRM, PMP, ITIL, is a Senior Project Manager, PMO at CGI. Sandy has over thirty years of industry experience in management, project management, consulting, teaching, and systems development in aerospace and defense, biomedical, pharmaceutical, health care, as well as manufacturing, logistics and distribution industries. Sandy is a past president of APICS-Los Angeles, and recently served as Ambassador for the San Diego chapter. Sandy was also a Board member of the Los Angeles Aerospace and Defense Special Interest Group (LA-ADSIG), and is the recipient of the APICS Milt Cook Award for 2008.
Scott Martin
SCOTT MARTIN, CSCP, is President of Lyon Technologies Inc. a leader in the design and manufacture of animal medical care equipment, manufacturing in California since 1915. He has over 20 years of experience in Aerospace, Medical and Industrial Electronics. Trained as a Mechanical Engineer in the Canadian Military he also holds a designation in Quality Assurance Management from the University of Manitoba, and Advanced Management from the University of Nevada Reno as well as additional technical course work at UCLA and Georgia Tech and is an APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional. Scott has held the positions of Managing Director, Vice President & General Manager, Director of Operations, Operations Manager, and Program Manager for multinationals at both the branch and corporate level in Canada and the United States with long term assignments in Europe and Asia.
Gavin Swigart
GAVIN SWIGART, CPIM, CSCP, CLTD is the founder and principal of GDS Consulting. He currently provides ERP Implementation support and training and Management Consulting with companies in life science, medical device, power generation, alternative fuel, and aerospace industries in the San Diego area. Prior to this, he served as a Production Control Manager in the aerospace and medical device industry with responsibility for the order fulfillment process from quoting and purchase order acceptance to planning, scheduling, and shipping. His areas of expertise include Production Planning and Control, Value Stream Mapping, Sales and Operations Planning, ERP systems, training, and education. Gavin graduated from the University of Wisconsin Platteville with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Operations Research from Georgia Institute of Technology. Gavin also holds certifications in CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management), CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) through APICS and CLTD (Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution).
Sue Franks
SUE FRANKS, CFPIM, CSCP, CLTD Sue has over 25 years of management experience in Materials, Manufacturing, and Operations Management. She has an MBA in Production and Operations Management from San Diego State University; and is APICS CPIM, CSCP, and CLTD certified. Sue has experience in a variety of manufacturing environments from start-up to high volume, and has worked for companies such as Medtronic, 3Com, Hewlett Packard, and JMAR, LLC. She is currently President of HourGlass Consulting in Sante Fe, NM. Sue has been an instructor for the San Diego Chapter of APICS since 2001, and is an APICS IDP recognized Master Instructor for CPIM, CSCP, Instructor Training and Advanced Instructor Skills.
