Housing FAQ

Dear UVA/QUAD resident,

Given the move to virtual instruction for the remainder of the semester, we want you to know that you have the option to terminate your CSUSM housing license agreement with no termination fee. This is optional, and housing will remain open for residents who would like to stay.

  • Do I have to move out of housing?

    In compliance with the Gov. Newsom’s orders to shelter in place, residents were asked to move out by 5 p.m. on March 21, 2020. Based on rapidly changing information at the state and county level, residents who do not have a significant reason to continue living on campus are required to move out, and will not be charged for their April installment. 

    Exceptions may be made for those with extenuating circumstances and cannot go home, and those who have known health or safety risks. Please email housing@csum.edu with your reason for needing to stay in CSUSM Housing and you will be notified withing 2 business days if your request has been accepted or denied.

  • Will I receive a refund?

    Residents who are moved out will not be required to pay their April installment. Residents who paid for the semester or year in full will be reimbursed. The university is determining a plan for refunding any portion of your March installment. Checks will be made out to the resident and mailed to the address listed on their resident portal. Please check that the address listed is correct, and edit if necessary. 
  • Why did CSUSM not close housing?

    We understand that some students will not have the option or may not be able to leave campus. Thus, it is important that our residential communities remain open for those who have been approved for an exception. 
  • Are community spaces like the pools and study rooms still open?

     Practicing social distancing and maintaining a clean environment is a community responsibility. The gyms, pools and community/study spaces are currently closed. Laundry rooms will remain open, but we ask that you limit your access and practice good hygiene. These areas may be closed if deemed necessary.
  • If I am being consolidated, will I still be able to live with my current roommates?

    We can't guarantee that you will be housed with your current roommates. We are consolidating for safety and security, and to mitigate the potential spread of the virus. These reasons will be guiding our decisions on how the consolidations will occur.
  • Will the RAs/RDs still live on campus to support us?

    Yes. We have retained an appropriate number of staff (RAs and RDs) who will remain in residence, serve on call, and will be available to respond to resident concerns or emergencies.
  • Will facilities staff still be available to respond to service requests?

    Yes. Maintenance and custodial teams will continue operating within our residential communities and will continue to respond to service requests. Cleaning for health protocols will be activated to increase the frequency of disinfecting high-touch points throughout our residential communities to help prevent the spread of disease and illnesses. 
  • Will community programming continue?

     Not at this time. To practice social distancing and flatten the curve, we will not be holding any community programming until further notice. If this changes, residents will be notified. 
  • Will I still have access to CSUSM campus amenities?

    Yes. During the current period of remote instruction and services at CSUSM, essential services will remain available to you via a hybrid/remote platform. Student service providers have developed plans to maintain essential services and staff in support of student needs.  Please refer to the available services page for more information. 
  • Will there be helpers and bins to assist with moving out, like when we moved in?

     For safety reasons, there will not be staff available to support packing and moving out of your apartment. We have a limited number of moving bins available that can be checked out at the front desk on a first-come, first-served basis. They will be disinfected after each use. 
  • What are the storage options for my belongings?

    We will not be able to store any items for you on campus, and you will need to make arrangements to store your belongings at local storage facilities. Once you officially check out, you will need to turn in your keys and card key and you will not be able to re-enter the building or your space. Please be sure to take all of your personal belongings and leave the room in clean condition to avoid any further charges.
  • Can I still take a housing tour if I plan on living in housing this fall?

    No. In-person tours are being discontinued until further notice. However, you can view rooms and floor plans by following @CSUSMHousing on Instagram and Facebook.
  • Is summer housing still an option?

    Yes. We are still currently licensing for summer. For up-to-date information, call 760-750-3711 or email us at housing@csusm.edu.
  • Can I still apply for fall housing?

     Yes. We are still accepting applications and renewal intention forms for academic year 2020-21. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible, due to limited availability.
