During the summer of 2005, five students assembled Kamalayan Alliance. These students had a vision to create an organization that brought awareness about Filipin@/Filipin@-American culture and history within our campus community at Cal State San Marcos. In Tagalog, Kamalayan is defined as “Consciousness”. “Alliance” means a bond or connection between families, states, parties, or individuals: an association to further the common interests of the members.” Our name reflects our goal as an organization. KA (Kamalayan Alliance) strives to build a community to understand, acknowledge and educate others of our ancestry, struggles, our diverse culture of similarities and differences, and ourselves and to create an inclusive community of Filipin@s and allies. Mission: “In order to realize our vision, our mission shall exceed the expectations of our officers, members, and student body, staff and faculty whom we serve as an inclusive student organization. We will accomplish this by committing to our shared values of achieving a diverse and supportive environment with extraordinary emphasis on the creation of value and progress as a community.
