UPD Internships

The University Police Department has a semester long internship program for fall and spring semesters and is designed to introduce interns into the field of law enforcement.  The internship program is flexible to meet the needs of each intern, whether they have to meet hourly requirements for a class or just want to be introduced to law enforcement.  Below is some additional information about the program and how to apply.

Duties

Each semester the interns are required to meet for two hours each week as a group with the program supervisor. This two hour session is a group discussion format broken up into 5 learning blocks. On top of this interns will be assigned special projects and assignments on line to gain more hours and experience. Basic topics of discussion are current national and global events, basic laws of arrest, patrol policies, terrorism, report writing. Special projects will be assigned on an as needed basis in the areas of Emergency Management, Communications Center, Administrative Services, Community Outreach and Patrol.

**Please note this is an unpaid/no credit internship.  It will only meet the internship requirement for other classes.

Qualifications

Each candidate for the internship program must:

  • Be in good academic standing and a current student at CSUSM.
  • Pass a background investigation to include FBI/DOJ fingerprinting.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
