Buddy Sessions
What to Expect
Buddy sessions typically last 60 minutes and are student-centered. That means that you and your buddy will choose what you would like to accomplish in the appointment — just let us know what you would like to focus on. Buddy appointments work best if you bring a buddy with a similar situation as yours; similar prompt, similar stage in the writing process, and similar writing concerns/questions.
During a session, you can expect the consultant to begin with your prompt and some questions to better understand the assignment. Students often request to work on development, organization, analysis, format, and grammar.
To reserve a buddy session:
- only you or your buddy needs to make an appointment
- you should make the appointment for 60 minutes
- 60 minute sessions are required for buddy sessions involving a GEW101A or GEW101B Writing Center visit requirement.
To be prepared for your Writing Center session, please bring the following items with you:
- Your assignment guidelines (the prompt), notes about the assignment, and any other relevant material.
- Any work you have written in either digital or hardcopy form. We have computers you can use, and we do have a Pawprint station in our Center, if you need access to a printer.
- If you or your buddy are coming in to satisfy the GEW Writing Center visit requirement, bring your agenda forms.
