Neven Basener

Neven Basener: A Night of Haydn

This recital will present a program consisting entirely of prolific Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn's compositions (1732-1809). Accompanied by pianist Perrine Lee, Neven Basener will be performing Haydn's Horn Concerto No. 1 in D major (1762), and Horn Concerto No. 2 in D major (1767).

While both concertos were completed five years apart from each other, came from the same composer, and were even written in the same key, Haydn's Horn Concertos No. 1 and 2 showcase a great contrast between the two, with No. 1 being written for technical playing in the higher range of the Horn, and No. 2 being more lyrical and residing in the lower range of the Horn. The beauty and variety between these two concertos offer a unique look back in time to the classical era of western music and demonstrate what early solo Horn repertoire sounded like during such a historically significant period of evolution for classical music as a whole.
