Shanon Khounborine, MBA '21 had that opportunity while she was still in the program.  Some of her cohort colleagues work at Novasyte, where they introduced Shanon and now she works as a healthcare recruiter.

Ashley found a way to make herself an attractive prospect for employers. Starting as an undergraduate student at CSUSM, she found her way into the MBA program after graduating with a biology degree. Accepting her new role as the associate marketing programs manager at Illumina, she was able to combine her undergraduate degree and her new MBA to enter an exciting industry of biotechnology.

Last year held many changes Kate McArevey-Colello’s ‘20 engineering career. Not only did she celebrate completing her MBA, she also left her role as plant manager at Spectrum Plastics group to start a new venture with MBA cohort classmates Kyle Kimmel, Josh Smith, and Tom Lugo. But Kate’s big year didn’t stop there. In addition to getting her masters and taking a chance on a new start up, she also asked to accept a teaching position at Mira Costa in the same engineering technician program she completed years prior.

An MD wasn’t enough for Jorge Gaspar, MBA ’15, who joined the program after the encouragement of a colleague and the CEO of his current company, Foresee Medical Inc. While in the program he rediscovered his love for statistics and data modeling which led to him co-founding not one, but two new businesses in the video game industry.

Jerome started at CSUSM as an undergraduate student in the management information systems department and decided to further develop his skill set by pursing his MBA in Business Analytics. When the program caught up with him, he talked about he is now deploying his skills as a Data Analyst at Rivo Holdings, a financial services provider in San Diego. Shana stepped into the Specialized MBA program as a Neuro Trauma RN with little business knowledege, but graduated with the skills and confidence to launch her own business! While she is still working as an ICU RN, and putting in overtime to help with the COVID-19 outbreak, she is also learning how to pivot her business to an online format.

Steve was a gradaute  of the first CSUSM MBA class in 1996! The alumnus has an extensive background in the financial industry with ten years as a regional sales manager for Equifax and now 20 years experience running his own business, Credit and Collection News. The company provides a daily news publication and conferences for the credit industry, with over 50,000 email subscribers. "I spent my first 10 years working for large corporations and eventually worked my way to running my own company. A big company offered training, paid my expenses and gave me a good foundation to build upon."

Since graduating from CSUSM MBA in 2017,  Alex Lutz 's career path has shifted from the private insurance industry to the non-profit sector. As the progrm director at Kathy's Legacy Foundation,  she serves children and pets impacted by domestic violence. Dorinda has built an impressive resume since leaving CSUSM MBA in 1997. Her career path has taken her from working as consultant for renowned Booz, Allen, Hamilton Consulting (Booz Allen), to esteemed positions as Deputy Commissioner and Director or Management services for the City of Atlanta, GA. She is now working as Senior Director of Capital Programming, for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, where she manages a 3.5 billion capital program. She was recently recognized as one of "100 Most Influential Women in Georgia” from Engineering Georgia Magazine in February 2020.
