Research Activities

Overview

There are several opportunities for research experience. All BEARS scholars will be connected with CSUSM faculty and advanced students during their first academic year to learn about campus research projects. During the summer after their first academic year (summer 2), they will do an extended group research project with their cohort to introduce them to bioengineering research. Finally, the summer after their second academic year (summer 3), they will join a professor at CSUSM or UCSD for an individual research opportunity. They can get to work on cutting-edge bioengineering research and participate in activities with UCSD bioengineering cohorts and their Orthopaedic Surgery department.

Info about Research Summer 2

  • During the summer after their first academic year, BEARS scholars will do an extended group research project with their cohort to introduce them to bioengineering research.
  • They will also participate in our second quantitataive and computational skills workshop.
  • This summer is the only time not paid

Info about Research Summer 3

  • The summer after their second academic year (summer 3), BEARS scholars will join a professor at CSUSM or UCSD for an individual research opportunity.
  • They can get to work on cutting-edge bioengineering research and participate in activities with UCSD bioengineering cohorts and their Orthopaedic Surgery department.
  • They are paid $2,000 to conduct their own research projects with faculty from CSUSM or UCSD, and present in the CSUSM Summer Poster Showcase.
