Spring 2024 Concerts and Events

Rodneal Ordonez,

Rodneal Ordonez

Come join pianist Rodneal Ordonez in an evening of intimate embrace of soulful jazz music.

The recital consists of jazz pieces from early 1900s composers Hoagy Carmichael and Harold Arlen to modern composers Roy Hargrove and Joey Alexander. The overarching theme of the songs is expressing emotions. Upon hearing the melody, it's apparent the feeling of love, heartache, and sentiment these composers felt within them.

He will be joined by Andrew Kelly (drums), Michael Kuszajewski (bass), and William Brumbach (saxophone).

Spend an evening with us as we embark on a journey that travels through time to honor these visionaries. Their melodies bridge our shared heritage, connecting hearts across time and space.

William Brumbach

William Brumbach

Join William Brumbach, saxophonist for a night of jazz for the coolest of cats.

This recital is a selection of William’s favorite tunes from across the jazz idiom. The songs are also more obscure tunes that you normally wouldn’t hear at a jazz jam. The music will range from soft, sweet sounds of sincerity to hard-hitting with attitude.

These songs from jazz history are meant to show you the wide range of this genre and to demonstrate a rich understanding of this music and it’s history.

He will be joined with Mackenzie Leighton on bass, Emmanuel Hill on trumpet, Chris Potonte, and Jonathan Coehn on piano.

Come dig the sounds of some of San Diego’s finest Jazz musicians.

Neven Basener

Neven Basener: A Night of Haydn

This recital will present a program consisting entirely of prolific Austrian composer Franz Joseph Haydn's compositions (1732-1809). Accompanied by pianist Perrine Lee, Neven Basener will be performing Haydn's Horn Concerto No. 1 in D major (1762), and Horn Concerto No. 2 in D major (1767).

While both concertos were completed five years apart from each other, came from the same composer, and were even written in the same key, Haydn's Horn Concertos No. 1 and 2 showcase a great contrast between the two, with No. 1 being written for technical playing in the higher range of the Horn, and No. 2 being more lyrical and residing in the lower range of the Horn. The beauty and variety between these two concertos offer a unique look back in time to the classical era of western music and demonstrate what early solo Horn repertoire sounded like during such a historically significant period of evolution for classical music as a whole.
