Aspiring Scholars Program Applications
Applications to start in Fall 2024 are now closed.

Applications to start in Fall 2025 will open October 2024.

Application Process

  1. Submit online application
  2. You will need to upload the following documents as part of the online application:
    • Most recent Individualized Education Program (IEP)
    • High school transcript(s)
    • College transcript(s) if applicable
    • Most recent Psychological Evaluation
    • Additional Evaluations/Assessments (e.g., psychological, social, vocational) if applicable
  3. Provide TWO online recommendation forms - CSUSM Aspiring Scholars Program Recommendation Form
    • The forms must be completed by non-relatives who have known the applicant for at least six months
    • One form must be from an educator
    • The other form can be completed by an educator, supervisor, employer, family friend, or service provider
  4. Once applications have been reviewed by the CSUSM Aspiring Scholars team, potential applicants will be interviewed

Eligibility Criteria  

You are eligible for this program if you have an intellectual disability, want an inclusive college experience, are seeking to gain meaningful competitive integrated employment, and meet the requirements listed below. Please contact us at scholars@csusm.edu if you have any questions!

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Have a documented intellectual disability
  • Completed high school with a diploma or certificate by Aug. 1, 2024
  • Have a strong desire to gain employment after completion of the CSUSM Aspiring Scholars Program and are striving toward independence
  • Are comfortable with a dynamic schedule and have intrinsic motivation to participate in all program components (academic instruction, vocational skills, independent living skills instruction, campus activities)
  • Are able to complete daily needs, access your physical environment, and safely function with minimal to no supervision (Note: if you have prearranged supports, indicate this on the application)
  • Are able to communicate needs effectively (inclusive of communication devices)
  • Have the ability to get along with peers, follow rules, and accept direction
  • Are able to effectively and appropriately participate and benefit from the program
