Public Information

FERPA allows universities to release specific types of information without student consent.  This is referred to as “Directory information”.  All students have the right to request their directory information be withheld and should contact the Office of Registration and Records to arrange for this. The Authorization to Withhold Directory Info form is located at enroll all forms.

At CSUSM, the following is considered directory information

  • Student name
  • CSUSM email
  • Major field of study
  • Dates of attendance
  • Full-time or Part-time student status
  • Degrees, awards, and honors received
  • Dates degrees conferred

Additional information is considered Directory Information for Students employed in Unit 11.  Unit 11 students should refer to the university policy and procedure for more information.

By campus policy, Student ID is NOT considered directory information although FERPA would allow it to be.
