Student Organization Giving

Student Organizations offer a wide variety of opportunities for students to enhance their academic and social life on campus. Students can choose from over 100 recognized student organizations to get involved with, or start their own!

As a result of getting involved, students develop a campus support network, build interpersonal skills, and engage in the Tukwut Experience. Student Organization leaders grow their leadership skills and plan fun activities for their organization and the campus at large.  Current student leaders report that their communication, interpersonal, and social skills have improved as a result of being involved on campus and in the CSUSM community.

Student Philanthropy Council

Established in 2011, the Student Philanthropy Council (SPC) is a committee of students dedicated to growing the culture of giving on campus and raising money for the Student Philanthropy Endowed Scholarship. The SPC also learns more about philanthropy, including:

  1. How current use and endowed scholarships work (and how to fundraise for them)
  2. How student organizations and clubs can fundraise via Cougar Crowdfunding and learning the strategies and techniques to be successful.
  3. Helping University Advancement properly thank CSUSM donors (writing thank you cards, producing thank you videos, or attending donor events and activities).
  4. Learning about careers in philanthropy and non-profits.
  5. Having fun learning together!

Interested in participating? Email Sean Briner, Director of Annual Giving, at sbriner@csusm.edu.

Thank You!

CSUSM Giving Day 2023 on Tuesday, November 28 raised $459,638 in just a 24-hour period, mainly utilizing social media. An important part of that was our students who stepped up to the plate in a big way! In fact, 377 student gifts were received, representing 18% of all gifts. The most popular areas supported by students:

  • Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field
  • Esports Association Club
  • Women's Volleyball Club
  • Cheer
  • DREAMer Resource Office

Once again, our CSUSM community showed incredible heart for student success at CSUSM.

Top Reasons to Give

  1. Others gave before you! The reason many programs, scholarships, and other opportunities at CSUSM exist is because of the generosity of students, alumni, employees, parents, and friends of the university.
  2. Most students receive financial aid to support their education each year. Gifts to the SPES means more scholarships are awarded to students. Read about past scholarship recipients!
  3. Your generosity helps to grow an environment of "giving back" at CSUSM.

How to Give

We suggest a gift of $20.24 in honor of the Class of 2024. EVERY gift, no matter the size, makes an impact. Give online via credit card, PayPal or Venmo by selecting Student Philanthropy Endowed Scholarship in the "View all giving opportunities" button.
